U-Pick Strawberries

Strawberry Harvest: our plan is:
Weekends: U-Pick beginning date April 1– April 30

We are at the mercy of Mother Nature & the weather that affects the growth & ripening of the strawberries so these dates may be adjusted.
(while supplies last)

Berry picking will begin at 10 AM on Saturdays & 12 PM on Sundays, when the farm opens, and go until the berries are all picked.  The ending time will vary each day depending on the number of people picking & the amount of berries that are ripe each day.  If you are planning to come later in the day, please call ahead to see if there are berries still available to pick, 337-328-8916.

Berry containers to fill & take home will be provided, that is in additional charge to your Farm Fun Admission.

We also have half flats of already picked strawberries available for purchase at our Country Store for $25

Berry Bath

We have delicious, fresh-grown strawberries here at CM Farms! After bringing the delicious berries home, keep ‘em fresh longer with this little trick.

What you’ll need:

  • A large bowl
  • A colander
  • Vinegar
  • Clean water
  • Paper towels
  • Clean container with breathing holes
  • Tons of tasty strawberries from the farm

What to do:

Mix 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water. Put all your berries in the large bowl and cover with liquid. Let your berris soak for about 5 minutes. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and will get rid of any bacteria or fungi. Next, strain your berries and place them on the paper towels to air dry. Once they are completely dry (moisture actually speeds up the decaying process), place them in the breathable container and store in your fridge for your next snack attack!

Head on out to the farm this Spring to pick a few strawberries yourself or purchase a flat or two at the Country Store!

Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake

Nothing feels more like supper at Grandma’s house than Strawberry Shortcake! Make it even tastier by using sweet, farm-grown strawberries from CM Farms!

You’ll need…

Berry mixture:

  • 6 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Shortcake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 tbsp sugar, divided
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream

Topping:

  • 1 ½ cups heaving whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Now get cookin’!

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. While oven is preheating, combine strawberries with sugar and vanilla and mash ‘em up a little. Let them sit for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Get started on the shortcake by whisking together flour, 4 tbsp of sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until you get a crumbly texture. Add buttermilk and stir until just combined. Drop batter by ⅓ cupfuls about 2 inches apart onto an ungreased baking sheet. Brush with 2 tbsp heavy cream and sprinkle with remaining 1 tbsp sugar. Bake 18-20 minutes until golden. Cool completely on wire racks.

To make the topping, beat heavy whipping cream until it starts to thicken. Whisk in the sugar and vanilla and beat until you get soft peaks.

Cut the biscuits in half, top ‘em with strawberries and whipped cream, and serve ‘em up!
